The Arcadia brand supplements are specifically formulated for husbandry systems using UVB light. The philosophy is simple: provide nutrition the way the body expects it.
Note: The Arcadia CalciumPro-Mg is expected to be back in stock by mid-February.
Arcadia Feeding Schedule
Feeding of Chameleons is usually every other day except for babies and gravid females
Feeding 1 – 3: Arcadia EarthPro-A
Feeding 4: Arcadia CalciumPro-Mg
Feeding 5-7: Arcadia EarthPro-A
Feeding 8: Arcadia RevitaliseD3
Critical! Be sure to provide sufficient UVB when using this system. Even though RevitaliseD3 has small amounts of Vitamin D3, it is not intended to be a major part of the calcium digestive cycle. Do not rely on this dose every two weeks to provide all the D3 needs!
Note: The suggestions I am giving you are personal preference and based on what has worked for me. This does not mean this is the only way that works. In fact, there are MANY ways that are successful! This is simply the way I do it and has worked for me.
Adult Chameleons: The main schedule is designed for adult chameleons that have grown into their mature size. Each point along the feeding schedule represents a feeding that is every other day. A simplified way to look at this is to feed Monday, Wednesday, Friday with a dusting of EarthPro-A. The first weekend you give a feeding dusted with CalciumPro-Mg and then the second weekend a feeding with RevitaliseD3. Then repeat. There is a growing awareness of obesity in chameleons. If your chameleon needs to go on a diet, you can reduce the number of feeders per feeding. If you want to skip a feeding then remove one of the EarthPro-A feedings during the week
Babies: Baby chameleons are born with vitamins they received from their egg. Presumably, these are the fat soluble vitamins. Therefore, it is not critical to begin supplementing with the RevitaliseD3 immediately upon birth. Though, it is unknown at which point the vitamins from the egg run out so I suggest starting RevitaliseD3 at about one month old. This will provide the preformed vitamin A which is important for eye health. I do begin supplementing with EarthPro-A and CalciumPro-Mg in conjunction with UVB lighting within the first two weeks to get the calcium in their system. Up until three to six months of age I feed every day (depending on species) and I supplement with EarthPro-A with every feeding. This is possible because there are no fat soluble vitamins (A, D3, E, K) in EarthPro-A. If you are purchasing a baby from a reputable breeder then they are most likely three or more months old and would be considered a juvenile.
Juvenile Chameleons: Chameleons are considered juveniles from the age at which they can be sold to the point where their growth slows and they become young adults. The age range depends on species and is highly dependant on size. For a panther chameleon, this is from about 3 months old to 6 or 7 months old. When in doubt, consult your breeder. Everyone will have a different formula. Do not worry. This is not an exact science and there is a wide margin for error. Juveniles can go on the full EarthPro-A/CalciumPro-Mg/RevitaliseD3 schedule with EarthPro-A filling in for the every day feeding. When going to an everyday feeding, keep CalciumPlus-Mg and RevitaliseD3 every two weeks.
Gravid Females: As long as you have been consistently supplementing your females there is no need to change supplementation. If you increase feedings you can increase them with EarthPro-A. One may think that an increase in frequency of RevitaliseD3 would be beneficial to ensure the levels of vitamin A in the eggs. This is a reasonable thought and logical, but tests in the chameleon world are inconclusive. Some breeders report adding vitamin A to the diet to produce more viable eggs while other breeders give no vitamin A and have fully healthy clutches laid. So, at this time, we cannot say one way or the other. There is evidence for both sides.
