The patented (US D800,969 S) Dragon Ledges give you the solid foundation to decorate your screen cage with live plants and horizontal branches.
The Problem: Mounting branches and plants inside a screen cage
Chameleons and other arboreal reptiles are commonly kept in screen cages, but mounting branches and plants inside has been problematic. We in the chameleon community have come up with a wide range of solutions from thumb tacks to hot glue to zip ties and magnets. All of these place stress and load on the screen itself which is not designed to be load bearing.
How we can make it work: Divert weight to the aluminum frame
Where the screen can be warped and torn, the aluminum frame is structurally strong. The solution is to divert weight from the middle of the screen panel to the frames on the outside of the panel. The ideal solution will be strong enough to handle horizontal branches and potted plants.
The Solution: Dragon Ledges Screen Cage Retrofit Kit
Dragon Ledges create solid anchors at multiple points within your screen cage with no stress to the screen. Our mission was to create an anchor system that would handle the horizontal branching and plant needs of chameleons, the resting area and cork hollow needs of Rhacodactylus geckos, and the vertical log needs of Uroplatus leaf-tailed geckos.
Each Dragon Ledge consists of three parts:
Ledge. The inside piece is raised off the screen surface and has numerous holes along its length. This provides a rage of mounting solutions for what you desire to install inside your screen cage. Items can be rested on top of the ledge, placed inside the holes, strung behind the ledge, or affixed to the front. You may attach the items with zip ties, hot glue, wire, or Great Stuff foam.
Spacer. This piece ensures that the screen wall is not stressed either during the installation process or the load transfer process.
Back Support. This component is the workhorse which receives the weight of the interior items and transfers it directly to the aluminum frame.
This is now possible.
Ordering. Dragon Ledges are offered as a retro-fit kit so they may be installed on screen cages you already own. Order the size Dragon Ledges that correspond to the width of the side panel of your cage. For example, if the side panel is 24″ wide then you order the 24″ Dragon Ledges. Warning: Cage manufacturers often round up their numbers. Verify the width of the screen panel with a tape measure.
The 16″ and 18″ Dragon Ledges are sold in packs of four so you can use two Dragon Ledges per side. The 24″ Dragon Ledges are sold in packs of five with one of those being a special sized Dragon Ledge for the back panel.
The most common cage these are used for are the ZooMed ReptiBreeze cages.
For ZooMed ReptiBreeze XL (24″x24″x48″) use the 24″ Dragon Ledges
For ZooMed ReptiBreeze L (18″x18″x36″) use the 18″ Dragon Ledges
For ZooMed ReptiBreeze M (16″x16″x30″) use the 16″ Dragon Ledges
